Indigenous Scholar – Department of Management – Sobey School of Business

Saint Mary’s University (SMU) Sobey School of Business is inviting applications for a tenure‑track position as Assistant or Associate Professor Indigenous Scholar in the Department of Management. This targeted hire is open only to scholars who identify as First Nations, Inuit, Métis, or an Indigenous person from another global context, with particular encouragement for applicants from the Mi’kmaw community.

Job Information and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate solid skills in a management discipline such as cooperatives, sustainability, responsible leadership, entrepreneurship, organizational behaviour, strategy, business ethics, industrial relations, or human resource management.
  • Teach undergraduate and potentially graduate courses, mentor and supervise students.
  • Conduct research and contribute to the academic reputation of the department, university, and community.
  • Build department capacity through community‑engaged relationship building, curriculum revision, and program promotion and recruitment.
  • Promote equity and diversity as essential to academic excellence, incorporating lived Indigenous experience and expertise.
  • While not required, applicants with a focus on Indigenous research and teaching are strongly encouraged.
Experience and Education Requirements
  • A demonstrated record of effective teaching and advanced research capability, either by holding a Doctoral Degree (or near completion with a documented expected completion) or by providing evidence of equivalent Indigenous research and knowledge contributions.
  • Research agenda in a management discipline and the ability to bring an Indigenous worldview to teaching curriculum.
  • Teaching agenda that reflects a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to strengthen partnerships with local Indigenous communities.
