Adult Learning Program (ALP) Counsellor (PS5) – Nova Scotia – School of Access, Education and Language – 100% full‑time, commencing approximately December 8, 2025.
Responsibilities Provide career, academic and personal counselling and support for students in the Adult Learning Program, leading to the Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma for Adults.
Engage in student intake assessment, data management, orientation and retention support services, collaborating with the School of Access, Education and Language, Student Services, and support agencies.
Collaborate closely with the faculty of the Adult Learning Program and Student Services staff members.
Complete a part‑time adult education program delivered by NSCC within the probationary period, as required for full‑time Professional Support employees.
Qualifications and Occupational Experience Masters degree in Clinical Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or another relevant field enabling registration with the provincial regulatory body (NSCCT, NSCSW, or NSBEP).
Registered or in the candidacy process with the relevant regulatory body.
Minimum of five (5) years (full‑time equivalent) post‑counselling credential experience counselling adults in a variety of specialities, including academic, career and personal settings, with or without experience in a post‑secondary environment (an asset).
Experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, E‑mail, and familiarity with learning management systems such as Brightspace; experience with ERP systems such as Peoplesoft is an asset.
Demonstrated understanding of the adult learner and the framework for lifework development.
Comfortable working in a digital environment and commitment to using technology to enhance student experience.
Relevant Skills and Knowledge Commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility and anti‑racism.
Excellent interpersonal, customer‑service, and relationship‑building skills.
Strong teamwork, problem‑solving, critical‑thinking and communication abilities.
Excellent coordination and management of student intake processes, course enrolments, and tracking graduation pathways.
Experience coordinating with government and community agencies supporting learners, including case workers from DCS and Employment NS.
Proven record in information management related to student transcripts, transfer credits, course mapping and graduation tracking.
Dedication to lifelong learning, including an annual schedule of professional development.
