Position: Part-Time Academic (KINE/HPRO/LEIS 5501: Advanced Research Methods) - Fall 2026
Job Summary &

Key Responsibilities

The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching:
KINE/HPRO/ LEIS 5501 Advanced Research Methods. The course will be offered in the fall term
, from September 1-December 30, 2026. NOTE:
This is an in-person course that involves lecture, experiential activities, discussion format.

This course is intended for students in thesis-based graduate health-related programs to help guide the development of a quantitative research proposal. This course will begin with graduate-level skills in evidence synthesis and critical appraisal of research, and foundational concepts across a variety of research designs and approaches will be explored and critiqued before emphasizing quantitative methods and proposal preparation. Research methods will be examined in relation to the development and testing of scientific theory, questions, and hypotheses.

Students will formulate a quantitative research question and hypothesis, design a quantitative study, and begin to develop a research proposal, in addition to an introduction to research ethics and knowledge translation. CROSS-LISTING: .03 and .03

The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures and preparation and grading of assignments. The course will be taught using Brightspace (LMS- learning management system) and in-person on the Halifax Campus for the winter term. In addition, the part-time academic should expect to be engaged in course preparation in advance of the term.

The part-time academic may consider offering one to two office hours outside of class time per week.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

  • Graduate degree in Kinesiology, Health Promotion or Recreation and Leisure Studies with demonstrated teaching ability preferred.
