Position: Part-Time Academic (OCEA 4401: Marine Management I) - Fall 2026
Job Summary &

Key Responsibilities

The Part-Time Academic (PTA) will be responsible for teaching OCEA 4401 – Marine Management I, a fourth-year undergraduate course that introduces students to contemporary marine management issues and the interdisciplinary approaches required to address challenges facing the marine environment. The course examines the relationship between science, policy, governance, and management, with an emphasis on sustainable marine decision-making.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and delivering lectures for OCEA 4401 in accordance with the approved course syllabus.
  • Teaching two in-person lectures per week during the Fall term, as scheduled in the academic timetable (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:35 – 3:55 office hours by appointment to provide academic support and guidance to students.
  • Developing, administering, and grading course assignments and assessments, and submitting final grades in accordance with University policies.
  • Maintaining course materials on Brightspace and communicating with students regarding course-related matters.
  • Ensuring course delivery and assessment are conducted in accordance with Dalhousie University policies and academic standards.
  • Performing other instructional duties normally associated with the teaching of a fourth-year undergraduate course.
  • Qualifications/Requirements of Position

  • Candidates must, as a minimum, possess a PhD degree in a marine-related field and have experience teaching marine management to upper-level undergraduate students.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience teaching the course.
  • Salary Range/Pay Rate

    Per CUPE Collective Agreement
