Position: Part-Time Academic (PSYO 2090: Developmental Psychology) - Fall 2026
Job Summary &

Key Responsibilities

PSYO 2090 (Developmental Psychology) examines the changes that occur in humans from conception through adolescence, including biological, social, cognitive, and linguistic aspects of development.

The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for teaching a 2000-level lecture course, Developmental Psychology (PSYO The class is being offered in person (Mondays & Wednesdays, 10:05 to 11:25am) on Dalhousie’s Studley campus. The anticipated enrolment is 149 students, and the course comes with support of a TA45.

Responsibilities of the successful applicant will include:

  • Developing 12 weeks of content, including lectures, readings, and assessments.
  • Presenting in-person content based on the current class schedule, noted above.
  • Preparation and administration of assessments exams, quizzes, assignments).
  • Grading assessments and providing timely feedback to students (in collaboration with the course TA).
  • Offering approximately 2 hours per week for student consultation; responding to student emails in a timely manner.
  • Providing course content syllabus, notes, grades) on Brightspace, Dalhousie’s learning management system.
  • Maintaining a record of all student grades (including grades for each assessment component) in Brightspace, and ensuring timely submission of final letter grades to the registrar’s office.
  • Teaching occasionally requires work after the formal end point of a course (for example, in cases where a student has extenuating circumstances or academic accommodations that require a deferred final exam). If such cases arise, the Part-Time Academic must facilitate tying up loose ends, either by completing the work themselves, or by providing the necessary materials for the department to complete the work on their behalf answer keys;

    This position reports to the Chair of the Department.

    Qualifications/Requirements of Position

  • Applicants must have a graduate degree in Psychology or a closely related discipline, demonstrated teaching effectiveness, and research or teaching experience related to developmental psychology.
  • Previous experience with Dalhousie’s learning management system, Brightspace, is considered an asset.
