Position: Part-Time Academic (MATH 3031.03: Abstract Algebra I) - Fall 2026
Job Summary &

Key Responsibilities

The Part-Time Academic will teach the one half-credit course, MATH 3031 Abstract Algebra I, during the Fall Term (September – December 2026). The course is scheduled TR from 1305 – 1425 and is a lecture only format.

Responsibilities include course preparation, lectures, grading, and student feedback. The successful candidate will maintain 3 hours of scheduled student hours each week.

Description:

This course covers groups, subgroups, permutation groups, cosets, direct products, fundamental theorem of finitely generated abelian groups, simple groups, group homomorphisms, factor groups, isomorphism theorems of groups, series of groups, Sylow theorems and applications. Additional topics may include free groups, group actions, and groups in Topology.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

  • A combination of degree in Mathematics or Statistics and previous teaching experience is required. Completion of a PhD or PhD in progress is considered an asset.
  • The successful applicant must have demonstrated knowledge of the subject matter.
