Job Summary &Key Responsibilities
The School of Architecture at Dalhousie University invites applications for a Part-Time Academic Instructor position in the Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies ( BEDS ) Architecture Program. BEDS is a pre-professional undergraduate Architecture degree. Students enroll in the BEDS degree in their third year of undergraduate education, entering a two-year sequence.
The Instructor will teach a 3-credit undergraduate course exploring the use of digital coding, computational modelling, and fabrication in architectural design processes. The course introduces students to the use of datasets, parametric modelling, and algorithmic design methods to generate and evaluate complex geometric forms. Students develop techniques for translating computational design processes into architectural drawings, digital renderings, and physical prototypes, and evaluate design outcomes in relation to project intentions, constraints, and opportunities.
The Instructor will be responsible for developing and delivering course content through lectures, demonstrations, and studio-based instruction. Prior course outlines and structures are available. The Instructor is invited to bring their disciplinary perspective and expertise to the course structure, content, and delivery.
Responsibilities include course planning, instruction in digital design tools and workflows, development of assignments, student assessment, and coordination of digital fabrication activities where applicable. The course should emphasize the relationship between computational methods, design intentions, and material realization. Course Description, ARCH 4502 Representation:
This course studies the use of digital coding, modeling, and fabrication in processes of form-making for design. Datasets and parametric modeling are used to generate complex geometric forms; represented as technical drawings, renderings, and physical prototypes; then evaluated in relation to initial project intentions, constraints, and opportunities.
