Note:

We are looking for a Field Safety Specialist - 12 Months Term to join our Corporate Safety Team. As part of a team, the successful candidate will work with Nova Scotia Power management, IBEW and employees to implement safety plans while supporting overall corporate commitment to attaining safety excellence.
The successful candidate is responsible to apply the appropriate measure of direction and support based upon Nova Scotia Power health and safety and objectives. You will work with field and corporate office personnel to improve safety performance.
Responsibilities
Ensuring everyone working on behalf of Nova Scotia Power are adhering to all company health and safety objectives.
Support Nova Scotia Power work groups with contractor management and the Contractor Safety Management Program.
Work toward an integrated approach to safety through continuous improvement of systems and processes.
Support rolls out of strategic safety initiatives including Serious Injury & Fatality (SIF) prevention, focusing on STKY (stuff that can kill you) and psychological health and safety.
Assist Managers, Supervisors and frontline employees understand and apply interpretations of safety regulations, policies, and rules.
Work closely with management and the IBEW in developing Safe Work Practices.
Measure the compliance of your assigned operating area with the requirements of the Safety Program through auditing.
Ensure the Safety Program meets or exceeds regulatory requirements. Also acts as a liaison with regulatory agencies.
Assist JOHSC Investigation teams in determining immediate and root factors associated with an incident and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
Perform field safety Observations and provide feedback to the field.
Track safety performance and identify trends, communicate trends with supervisors in your area
Work with other utilities and industries to improve safety in the workplace.
Travel across the province is required.
Qualifications
As the ideal candidate you will possess a degree/diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related fields of work.
You must have a demonstrated passion for safety and experience working with world class safety programs.
You must be a self-motivator with demonstrated experience working independently. You also have several years’ experience working in an industrial environment preferably with the transmission and distribution of an electrical utility.
A CRSP / CRST designation or working towards it would be considered a definite asset.
This position calls for exemplary relationship building, communication, and motivational skills. You will build and maintain working relationships with teams within Nova Scotia Power and its operating areas.
The successful applicant has demonstrated their effectiveness as a team leader and easily crosses organizational boundaries to work effectively as part of an integrated team. You are confident in your ability to make the right decision.
You must possess a current, valid driver’s license and be willing to travel within and outside the province as required. The preferred applicant should be willing to relocate if needed.
