Job Summary Reporting to the Central Plant Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Key Responsibilities
Efficient operation of boilers and chillers (operation of biofuel system if in Truro location) for maximum performanceProvides ongoing monitoring of Thermal Plant systems and equipment to ensure safety and efficiency (ie. boilers, chillers, diesel generator, electrical transformer, controls, etc.)Performs maintenance on Thermal Plant systems and equipment to ensure continuous operationMaintains a clean work environment in the thermal plantPerforms other maintenance tasks as requiredResponds appropriately to critical alarms by investigating and analyzing upset conditions in order to identify and correct problems or request assistancePerforms all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulationsPerforms water treatment control duties, as requiredCompletes log sheets on regular scheduled intervals, as directedCompletes daily log book entries on each shift as requiredCompletes daily, weekly and monthly inspection sheets, as directedEnergy management through Metasys/Rockwell Plant Controls as required and directedMaintains a clean work environmentWill provide relief coverage for the regular shift operators in addition to their own regularly scheduled operating and maintenance shifts to make up their full-time hoursPerforms other duties as requiredNote
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus
Required Qualifications
Valid 3rd Class Power Engineer’s certificate (standardized) recognized by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour or equivalentMinimum of three years recent and related experienceKnowledge and understanding of computer control systems including Johnson Controls Metasys and the Digital Control System (DCS) (burner management system and boiler modulating system) of boiler controlsKnowledge and understanding of computer use and various programsGood communication and organizational skillsAbility to read and interpret drawings/blueprintsFamiliar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulationsAbility to take direction and be flexible in working hoursMust be willing and able to work shifts, rotating shifts and overtime, as requiredGeneral safety and WHMIS training an assetMust be capable of working aloneAssets
