Position Summary
We have a current vacancy for a Marine Surveyor to join our team supporting Royal Canadian Navy Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs on Canada’s East Coast.
The Marine Surveyor will be responsible for providing project management and technical support to various Royal Canadian Navy Non-Combatant Platforms managed by Thales under its In-Service Support contracts.
In this position, you will work closely with the Thales LCMM, Engineering, and Service Delivery teams to support the planning and execution of ship surveys and inspections. You will be responsible for preparing survey reports, repair specifications, and other technical documentation required to support vessel certification and configuration management. You will also provide technical guidance and support for maintenance, repair, and certification activities, ensuring effective coordination between Royal Canadian Navy stakeholders and Thales teams to maintain vessel operational readiness and compliance.
Regulatory Compliance Requirement
This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The Marine Surveyor will report to the Engineering Services Manager and support the planning and execution of ship surveys, certification activities, and configuration management initiatives across Royal Canadian Navy Non-Combatant Platforms. This includes, but is not limited to:
Supporting the planning and execution of Classification Society surveys, certification activities, and related compliance requirements in collaboration with the Thales Certification Officer and Engineering teams.Planning and conducting pre-docking surveys, Annual Condition Surveys, and other vessel inspections, while preparing associated survey reports in accordance with DND and Classification Society requirements.Supporting the development of docking specifications, work packages, technical proposals, and scopes of work to facilitate maintenance, repair, and certification activities.Developing repair plans and technical specifications for hull, mechanical, and equipment repairs, while providing technical support for vessel certification and configuration management requirements.Preparing and reviewing technical documentation, baseline configuration records, and engineering work scopes for external suppliers, OEMs, repair facilities, and specialist service providers.Identifying opportunities for process improvement within Engineering and Certification Management activities, applying lessons learned from previous surveys and dockings, and providing technical analysis and recommendations for equipment and system issues.Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must meet each of the following criteria:
A diploma in a marine-related technical discipline from a recognized technical institute, certification as a technologist or technician through a recognized licensing body, or equivalent qualifications obtained through relevant Canadian Armed Forces marine technical trades.A minimum of eight years of professional experience within the marine or offshore sector, including at least five years of experience in vessel surveying, maintenance, repair, or certification activities supporting commercial or military fleets.Previous experience as a Marine Surveyor with a Classification Society, the Royal Canadian Navy, or a comparable marine organization supporting vessel inspection and certification activities.Demonstrated experience planning, managing, and executing ship dockings, dry dock refits, vessel inspections, and…
