Job Summary & Requirements

As a member of the healthcare interdisciplinary team, the Ultrasound Technologist Assistant role is delegated to assist the Sonographers at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, to ensure patients and their families receive the highest quality healthcare.

  • Supporting and implementing the mission and vision of the hospital in his/her relationship with patients, staff and the general public.
  • Assisting in the day-to-day operation of the Ultrasound department, including planning and organising additional duties.
  • Ensuring a prompt and safe service that meets accuracy, reliability and quality management system requirements.
  • Preparing incident reports as required according to the requirements of the quality management system.
  • Participating with the implementation, monitoring and reporting of Quality Control and Quality improvement programs.
  • Completing urgent and non‑urgent CD disk requests according to departmental policy and procedure.
  • Scheduling/rescheduling inpatient exams for external referral sources.
  • Participation in the orientation of new staff.
  • Participation in departmental meetings.
  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with staff, physicians, volunteers and patients.
  • Fostering and maintaining a positive climate within the department.
  • Maintaining good personal health and regular attendance.
  • Preparing patients for their ultrasound exam by giving them the proper forms to fill out and having them changed into proper hospital gown and pants.
  • Assisting patients with forms if they are unable to complete their own.
  • Ensuring patients have removed all required items for their ultrasound scan.
  • Facilitating the flow of patients in and out of the exam rooms.
  • Maintaining patient and hospital confidentiality.
  • Assisting Ultrasound Technologist in the exam room with getting the patient onto the stretcher and assisting with placing the patient for their exam.
  • Ensuring requisitions are all accounted for.
  • Assisting with ensuring all procedural trays are prepped.
  • Ordering and stocking of necessary supplies.
  • Folding and stocking linens and disposing of dirty linens.
  • Ensuring stretchers are prepped and cleaned for the next day.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Diagnostic Imaging quality and leadership group.
Education
  • Completion, or in progress, of a college level diploma or university degree in a healthcare related field is required.
Experience
  • Experience in a health care setting is preferred.
  • Experience working in Diagnostic Imaging Department is preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise, prioritise and multi‑task efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem‑solve independently and with guidance by others.
Other
  • Demonstrate communication to continued professional and personal growth and development through continuing education programs and self‑directed learning opportunities.
