Job Summary & Requirements
The Allied Health Services (AHS) team, under Professional Practice, consists of Regulated Healthcare Professionals including Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Social Work, Registered Dietitians, and unregulated Rehabilitation Assistants. Each discipline focuses on driving evidence‑informed practice to promote high‑quality, patient‑ and family‑centered care.
We are currently recruiting for a permanent part‑time acute‑care focused Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to support our acute care areas, including but not limited to ICU, ED, Birthing Unit, Critical Care Unit and Medicine/Surgery units.
Education and Experience- Current registration in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario – required
- Current BCLS – required
- Current ACLS – required
- Current NRP – required
- Previous experience in critical care – preferred
- Care and management of mechanically ventilated patients
- Assessment and modification of invasive and non‑invasive mechanical ventilation in accordance with Ventilation/Weaning guidelines
- Airway management
- Intubation and extubation
- Administration of aerosolized medication and/or Meter Dose Inhaler (MDI)
- Assessment and intervention for patients deemed high risk for respiratory failure
- Tracheostomy management
- Home oxygen assessment
- Arterial punctures and blood withdrawal from arterial lines
- Arterial line insertion
- Assisting with bronchoscopies and percutaneous tracheostomy procedure
- Intra and inter‑organization transport of high‑risk patients
- Neonatal management, including neonatal resuscitation at high‑risk deliveries (establishing airway, breathing and circulation), mechanical ventilation, Nasal CPAP, oxygen therapy and assistance of airway management
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrates excellent critical thinking, decision‑making and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to function independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Adaptability in a fast‑paced and stressful environment
