The Counsellor, reporting to the Manager of Counselling, will support all student populations, including Indigenous, Black/African Nova Scotian, and 2
SLGBTQIA+ students. This full-time role includes crisis management, tailored support plans, and counseling workshops. Collaboration with faculty and staff is also essential to enhance awareness of mental health topics on campus.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide personal and group counselling using brief therapy models
• Assess and respond to emergency situations with effective crisis intervention
• Design personalized practice skills for client development
• Facilitate internal and external client referrals effectively
• Conduct initial intake appointments determining appropriate action
Requirements:
• Master's degree in relevant field, like Arts or Social Work
• Minimum 3 years of related counselling experience required
• Registration with Nova Scotia regulatory body in good standing
• Strong assessment and crisis counselling skills necessary
• Current knowledge of counselling practices and methodologies
