About the opportunity

The Department of Psychology & Neuroscience at Dalhousie University invites applications for up to two limited term appointments with the Dalhousie Centre for Psychological Health (CPH), a community-based psychology training clinic within the Clinical Psychology PhD Program. The positions are currently funded through March 31, 2029. The appointment may be held by one individual at or divided between two individuals licants are asked to identify in their cover letter which FTE they are applying for.

These positions are in partnership with the Dalhousie Youth Mental Health (DalYMH) initiative. The DalYMH, is a Health Canada funded initiative that expands the mandate of the CPH by partnering with community-based organizations (CBOs) to identify youth mental health needs and co-create culturally informed, evidence-based training and service-delivery supports.

Through collaboration with HRM and provincial based CBOs, IWK Health, Nova Scotia Health, and IWK Integrated Youth Services Nova Scotia, DalYMH aims to reduce systemic barriers to care for youth aged 12–25 and enhance community capacity to deliver accessible, evidence-informed mental health supports.

This position reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Science through the co-Directors of the CPH and the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) of the Clinical Psychology PhD program, in the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience. The Supervising Psychologist (SP) will work within a clinic team consisting of primarily psychologists and clinical psychology graduate students, as well as allied health professionals and other academic support personnel.

The SP will primarily provide supervision and training to clinical psychology graduate students in collaboration with CBO staff as needed, with some limited involvement in direct psychological intervention as well as psychological assessments as appropriate for training purposes and continuity of care.

Applicants must have a PhD/PsyD (in Clinical, School, or Counselling Psychology) and is/will be eligible for registration as a Registered Psychologist with the Nova Scotia Regulator of Psychology, as well as appropriate liability insurance as outlined by the Nova Scotia Regulator of Psychology. Travel within NS is required.

Additional requirements:

Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision.

Experience delivering evidence-based psychological assessment (including psychoeducational and psychodiagnostic assessment) and treatment (both individual and group).

Experience working with youth and young adults

Experience working with diverse communities, such as Mi’kmaq, African Nova Scotian, 2

SLGBTQIA+, and newcomer youth.

Strong commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equity-oriented practice.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.

Valid NS drivers license and access to vehicle for travel.

Strongly Preferred:

Experience collaborating with community-based organizations or working in community mental health settings.

Familiarity with systemic barriers affecting youth mental health access in Nova Scotia.
