Medical Director

Our client is seeking an experienced Medical Director to provide scientific and strategic leadership across a growing Rare Disease portfolio. This individual will lead people and the development and execution of medical strategy while building trusted relationships with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, patient advocacy organizations, and cross-functional partners.

This leadership role is responsible for guiding a high-performing Medical Affairs team, supporting product launches, driving evidence generation, advancing medical education, and ensuring patients living with rare diseases have access to innovative therapies through scientific excellence and collaborative partnerships.

• Lead the Rare Disease Medical Affairs team, including Medical Science Liaisons, Medical Managers, and Medical Associates
• Develop and execute the national Medical Affairs strategy aligned with global objectives and local business priorities
• Build and maintain a strong scientific network with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, researchers, and patient advocacy organizations
• Develop comprehensive external engagement strategies that strengthen scientific partnerships and advance medical objectives
• Collaborate closely with Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory, Clinical Development, and Patient Engagement teams to support successful product launches and lifecycle management
• Lead the planning and execution of medical education initiatives, scientific exchange activities, advisory boards, and continuing medical education programs
• Oversee company-sponsored and investigator-initiated research, clinical collaborations, and real‑world evidence generation
• Support the implementation of clinical research programs and contribute to study design, investigator engagement, and evidence generation strategies
• Provide scientific leadership on regulatory submissions, product lifecycle management, and medical review of promotional and non‑promotional materials
• Develop and mentor a high-performing Medical Affairs team through coaching, performance management, talent development, and succession planning
• Ensure Medical Affairs activities are executed in accordance with industry regulations, corporate policies, and compliance standards
• Serve as the medical expert across the organization, providing scientific guidance to internal stakeholders and supporting strategic business decisions

• Advanced scientific degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) or MSc with significant pharmaceutical industry experience
• 5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience within Medical Affairs or a related medical function
• Previous leadership experience managing Medical Science Liaisons or Medical Affairs professionals
• Experience developing and executing Medical Affairs strategies within specialty pharmaceuticals or Rare Disease
• Strong understanding of clinical development, evidence generation, regulatory processes, and product lifecycle management
• Experience supporting product launches and cross‑functional commercial partnerships
• Exceptional leadership, coaching, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
• Proven ability to build relationships with healthcare professionals, academic investigators, patient advocacy organizations, and scientific leaders
• Strategic thinker with the ability to influence across matrix organizations and manage multiple priorities
• Strong knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system, reimbursement landscape, and external stakeholder environment
• Demonstrated commitment to scientific excellence, patient outcomes, and compliant medical practice

• Experience with in Rare Disease, Genetics, Metabolic Disorders, Immunology, Hematology, or other specialty therapeutic areas
• Experience leading national Medical Affairs teams across field and head office functions
• Previous global or regional Medical Affairs collaboration experience
• Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset
• Experience supporting launch or pre‑launch products within specialty pharmaceutic
