Reporting to the Director, IT Strategy and Architecture, the Business Architect (BA) is a strategic thought partner and application visionary who shapes business demand for technology based on a deep understanding of business objectives. The BA partners with business leaders to develop compelling business cases, driving approval and successful project outcomes. The BA collaborates to conduct business process reviews that lead to process and system improvements.

In addition to these responsibilities, the BA will champion AI strategy—focusing on ideation, execution, user experience, and measurable business impact—while ensuring alignment with overall technology strategy and roadmaps.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

- Strategic Partnership

  • Work with all levels of the organization to identify, analyze, and develop plans around critical strategic priorities.
  • Build strong, trust-based partnerships across business units and stakeholders to align technology initiatives with strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to identify business capability needs and prioritization.
  • Challenge business leaders to identify the problem needing to be solved.
  • Evaluate and prioritize incoming demand against strategic initiatives and business objectives.
  • Create business cases for presentation to leadership for approval.
  • Participate in planning projects to move ideas from business case to production.
  • Continuously monitor industry trends and best practices to inform innovation and technology adoption.
  • - AI Strategy & Execution

  • Collaborate with business leaders to identify, prioritize, and ideate AI use cases that deliver measurable business value.
  • Facilitate workshops to surface AI opportunities and foster innovation across business functions.
  • Evaluate AI solutions for fit, feasibility, and impact, ensuring alignment with technology strategy and roadmaps.
  • Develop business cases for AI initiatives, emphasizing ROI, risk, and change management.
  • Oversee execution of AI projects, ensuring integration with existing systems and business processes.
  • Track and report on the business impact of AI initiatives using data-driven metrics.
  • Ensure AI initiatives comply with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • - Business Process Improvement

  • Facilitate requirements gathering sessions with individuals and groups, ensuring clear, actionable documentation.
  • Apply thought leadership to emerging business projects and leverage external industry insights to drive innovation.
  • Lead business process mapping sessions to identify opportunities for efficiency, automation, and improvement.
  • Identify and recommend areas where processes can be streamlined, improved, or eliminated.
  • Lead capability mapping sessions to identify existing capabilities and opportunities for better utilization.
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field.
  • 5–7 years direct work experience.
  • CCBA or CBAP certification is an asset.
  • Experience with a major system implementation, such as ERP, WMS, TPM, etc.
  • Experience in identifying, evaluating, and implementing AI solutions in a business context.
  • Understanding of AI concepts (e.g., machine learning, automation, natural language processing) and their business applications.
  • Ability to translate business needs into AI solution requirements and success criteria.
  • Demonstrated experience in process analysis, business case development, requirements definition, and test specifications.
  • Experience in data analysis and working with large volumes of data.
  • Keen ability to create strong partnerships at all levels of the business based on trust, empathy, and capability.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot problems and partner with technical teams for resolution.
  • Strong understanding of system engineering, object-oriented design, information risk and security guidelines, and architecture standards.
  • In-depth understanding of software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall).
  • Understanding of modeling techniques, such as UML.
