Accountabilities

The Director of Language Services Operations is responsible for leading translation operations, managing teams, optimizing technology solutions, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality multilingual services. This role requires strong leadership, project management expertise, and the ability to drive innovation in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Lead and mentor a team of translation project management specialists and proofreaders, ensuring effective workload management, resource allocation, and team development.
  • Build and maintain a client‑focused culture by strengthening relationships with internal partners and stakeholders.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of language services technology, including solution evaluation, implementation, integrations, upgrades, and retirement of tools.
  • Support digital transformation initiatives, including automation, AI‑assisted translation, and workflow optimization.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure language operations remain innovative and efficient.
  • Lead strategic initiatives and continuous improvement projects to enhance processes, tools, documentation, and service delivery.
  • Manage complex translation projects requiring creative technological solutions while coordinating with internal teams, technology partners, and external service providers.
  • Establish clear expectations, timelines, resource plans, and operational priorities for major initiatives.
  • Collaborate with technology vendors to ensure the performance, security, and usability of language service platforms.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions to help users maximize the value of translation tools, portals, and digital solutions.
  • Provide expert support and troubleshooting for technology‑related issues affecting language operations.
  • Oversee onboarding and off‑boarding processes to ensure team members have appropriate access, training, and documentation.
  • Provide constructive feedback, encourage knowledge sharing, and promote continuous learning within the team.
  • Apply strong risk awareness and sound judgment when making operational and technology‑related decisions.
Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced language services professional with a strong background in translation operations, project management, technology adoption, and team leadership. You should combine linguistic expertise with operational skills and a passion for innovation.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in translation or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing translation services, preferably in a corporate environment.
  • More than 7 years of experience managing translation projects.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in the translation industry.
  • Native‑level written and spoken proficiency in Canadian English and Canadian/French Quebec French.
  • Working knowledge of Latin American Spanish is considered an asset.
  • Strong expertise with computer‑assisted translation (CAT) tools, translation management technologies, Microsoft Office, Adobe, Workfront, and related platforms.
