Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for the temporary (up to 6 months), part-time position of Utility 3 Operator at the Halifax Forum in Parks & Recreation.

This position encompasses a wide variety of general labour duties in various locations indoors and outdoors in various working conditions. To work in this position, you should enjoy driving and be able to work under minimal supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safe operation of any of the following equipment such as but not limited to: 1 ton, ¾ ton and ½ ton;
  • Miscellaneous labour work including but not limited to; painting, sweeping, operating hand tools, shovelling, ice maintenance, landscaping;
  • Contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM;
  • Completion of daily work related written reports, such as but not limited to: pre and post trip vehicle inspections, shift reports, commercial vehicle drivers’ hours of service, job site hazard assessments, etc;
  • Communicate respectfully with the general public on a regular basis;
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of vehicles/equipment in their charge;
  • Perform traffic control functions as required;
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision;
  • Must be willing and able to work in adverse weather conditions;
  • Must be willing and able to attend employer directed training;
  • Other related building duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Experience:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver’s License;
  • Good driving record (Registry of Motor Vehicle abstract will be required before a formal job offer is made);
  • Good attendance and work record;
  • WHMIS, CPR/First Aid Certification, Traffic Control Person and Temporary Workplace Signing or ability to successfully complete.
  • Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures;
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, as it relates to completing daily work related written reports;
  • Organization and planning skills as it relates to service requests or work orders;
  • Must be alert, responsible, and self-motivated;
  • Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

    Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

    WORK STATUS: Temporary, part-time (up to 6 months)

    HOURS OF WORK: Minimum of 24 hours per week; combination of day shift (7:30am-3:30pm) and evening shift (3:30pm-11:30pm) including weekends. Flexibility required.

    SALARY: $27.70 per hour, as per the CUPE 108 Collective Agreement

    WORK LOCATION: 2901 Windsor Street, Halifax, NS
