Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Lead Hand to oversee day-to-day operations at the Materials Recycling Facility. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Lead Hand will lead a team of operators and labourers to ensure efficient processing of materials while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily operations to ensure safe and efficient processing of materials.

  • Lead and support staff working in the facility

  • Monitor material flow, equipment performance, and quality control to meet processing targets.

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards.

  • Schedule and coordinate workforce, including shift planning, task assignments, and break coverage.

  • Conduct daily safety and operations briefings; support a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to production, staffing, or equipment in a timely manner.

  • Liaise with maintenance staff to ensure equipment is serviced and operational.

  • Collaborate with the Facility Manager and other supervisors to optimize throughput and minimize downtime.

  • Provide training and guidance to new and existing employees.

  • Complete daily logs, shift reports, and incident reports as required.

  • Participate in audits, inspections, and emergency response when needed.

  • Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of supervisory experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or processing facility (recycling or waste management experience an asset).

  • Strong understanding of material recovery operations, equipment, and safety protocols.

  • Proven leadership and team-building skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Comfortable with shift coordination and hands-on supervision.

  • Basic computer skills (e.g., MS Office, production reporting systems).

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Working Conditions:

  • Monday to Friday, with occasional flexibility required for early starts or extended shifts depending on operational needs.

  • Indoor/outdoor industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving equipment.

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
