About Our Opportunity
The Market Development Branch with the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture delivers strategic marketing and trade initiatives to advance market development opportunities for Nova Scotia’s seafood, agri-food and beverage sectors across local, national, and international markets.

Through a broad and evolving suite of marketing initiatives and trade facilitation activities, the Market Development Branch works to increase awareness, enhance value, and drive demand for Nova Scotia quality food and beverage products. Activities are delivered in close collaboration with industry, sector associations, government partners, and in-market consultants engaged by the Department in priority markets.

Primary Accountabilities
Reporting to the Manager of Marketing, the Marketing Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring marketing initiatives and brand strategies that support Nova Scotia’s fisheries, aquaculture, and agriculture sectors in the local, national and international markets. Working strategically, the Marketing Officer plays a key role in promoting and driving growth across these vital provincial food and beverage sectors.

Key responsibilities include:

Promotes Nova Scotia’s fisheries, aquaculture, and agriculture sectors by developing and delivering targeted marketing initiatives that drive audience growth, increase visibility and awareness, and boost consumption and sales of seafood and agrifood products. Regularly monitor, analyze, and report on results aligned with marketing efforts.

Supports the implementation of the annual marketing and communications plan through the development of targeted marketing and collateral materials, adhering to corporate and export brand standards, including content for social media, newsletters, websites, and digital platforms.

Creates advertising and promotional materials related to trade missions such as one pagers, invitations, and profiles, while managing timelines and aligning deliverables with annual workplans.

Leads the planning and management of web and social media content to maintain a strong online presence, while tracking market activity, web traffic, engagement, and key performance indicators.

Collaborates with industry, provincial and federal partners to promote and showcase Nova Scotia seafood and agrifood businesses and their products through targeted marketing, communications, promotions and events within Canada and international markets.

Helps organize and support outbound trade missions, inbound engagements and site visits for companies and buyers. Coordinates contractors and service providers as needed.

Builds strong networks and working relationships with industry, buyers, associations, provincial and federal government partners, influencers, contractors and service providers.

Qualifications and Experience
You have a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience in marketing, communication, or international trade with proven work experience in digital marketing and brand strategy.

You are:

Experience in developing and implementing digital and print marketing plans within a regional and national market.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with various forms of digital media (website, social media) to reach audiences and build brand loyalty.

Proficiency with design software, including Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
