Job Summary:

The Clinical Manager provides leadership in advancing clinical excellence and client safety through evidence informed education and practice. In partnership with the Director of Practice and Clinical Education (& PQR team), the role ensures education programs for healthcare providers are aligned with organizational goals, regulatory expectations, and best practices. Accountabilities include the evaluation of health care providers, education programs, and systems wide priorities.

The position uses a dual-reporting model to ensure that high-quality patient care matches operational targets, safety rules, and continuous learning standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversees day-to-day operation and performance of employees and volunteers for multiple programs and locations in accordance with current regulatory guidelines, VON policies, procedures and standards and current strategic direction.
  • Supports the implementation of provincial nursing strategies, including orientation, transition to independent practice for newly hired and newly graduated nurses, and mentorship programs.
  • Maintains knowledge of existing and emerging clinical technologies and tools to support evidence-based practice and care delivery.
  • Applies a working knowledge of the relevant collective agreements and application of local labour rules in daily decision-making activities.
  • Provides clinical guidance, coaching and development to frontline staff working collaboratively with practice leaders and educators to strengthen clinical knowledge, technology, evidence informed practices and competencies that support quality service and effective care delivery.
  • Supports the completion of performance development and learning plans for all staff.
  • Demonstrates competency to design, implement, monitor, and manage clinical education and other clinical initiatives.
  • Maintains competency in evidence-based nursing practice in home, clinic, and community care setting.
  • Develops critical inquiry and ability to gather data and utilize findings to identify and solve educational and practice-based problems.
  • Demonstrates professionalism including ethical, legal, and professional values as a basis for clinical education policies, procedures, and decision making.
  • Utilizes a variety of strategies to monitor and evaluate clinical education/initiatives, the curricula and mastery of health care provider learning.
  • Demonstrates skills of system management and leadership to create, maintain, and develop desired programs.
  • Provides leadership in advancing professional practice and continuous learning by supporting the Director Home and Community Care and Director of Practice and Clinical Education in strengthening evidence informed practice, fostering professional development, enhancing staff performance, and driving ongoing quality and practice improvement.
  • Develops, delivers, redesigns, and evaluates clinical education programs supporting service delivery across lines of business.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively to promote collaboration and teamwork.
  • Develops education programs in collaboration with other Clinical Managers, Educators, and Practice, Quality & Client Safety (PQR) team to ensure a standardized approach.
  • Ensures required core competencies for regulated and unregulated staff are identified, developed and maintained.
  • Conducts need assessments to determine practice education requirements, develops programming to meet identified needs and sets priorities aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Observes, assesses and evaluates health care provider’s performance virtually, in field and in classroom settings, in accordance with practice standards, VON policy, relevant legislation and college regulations, in unionized and non-unionized environments.
