Research Associate in Whale Ecology

Join Dalhousie University as a Research Associate focusing on whale ecology and conservation in Halifax. This full-time role combines fieldwork with data analysis and project reporting.

As part of the Whale Ecology and Conservation lab, you will engage in interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding humpback whale foraging ecology and ship strike risks to bowhead whales. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, this role requires strong planning, collaboration, and data analysis skills. Engage in fieldwork and work within a vibrant academic community dedicated to impactful research.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and prepare for project fieldwork

• Collaborate with teams on research logistics

• Maintain whale tagging equipment

• Lead analysis of bio-logger data

• Model risks of ship strike to bowhead whales

Requirements:

• PhD in Marine Ecology or related field

• Three years of relevant postdoctoral experience

• Experience in fieldwork and large research projects

• Strong skills in R, Python, and data analysis

• Effective communication and teamwork abilities
