This is a full‑time, on‑site Security Officer role based in the Greater Halifax Metropolitan Area. The Security Officer will monitor and patrol assigned sites on foot or by vehicle to deter and detect risks, safety hazards, and unauthorized activities. Responsibilities include controlling access to facilities, verifying credentials, managing visitor entry, and maintaining a visible, professional presence. The role will respond to alarms, incidents, and emergencies by following established protocols, documenting events, and notifying appropriate contacts or emergency services.
The Security Officer will complete clear and accurate reports, log activities, and support incident investigations as needed. The position also involves providing customer‑service‑oriented support to clients, guests, and the public while upholding Apex Core Protection’s standards of professionalism, integrity, and community‑focused protection.
Qualifications
Demonstrated skills in situational awareness, risk identification, and basic incident assessment to recognize and respond to potential security and safety concerns.
Ability to follow established security procedures, access control protocols, and emergency‑response guidelines with consistency and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills, including clear verbal communication, active listening, and professional report writing and documentation.
Proven ability to de‑escalate tense situations, manage conflicts calmly, and interact respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
Capacity to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods and, where required, safely navigate stairs and varied environments.
High level of reliability, integrity, and professionalism, with a client‑ and community‑focused mindset.
Comfort using radios, smartphones, and basic security technology such as access control systems, CCTV interfaces, or incident‑reporting tools.
Ability to work various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational needs.
Current or eligible provincial security guard license (or equivalent), in good standing, in accordance with local regulations.
Previous experience in security, law enforcement, military, or a related field is an asset but not required where training.
