Job Summary Reporting to the Utilities Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the configuration, installation, removal, programming and maintenance of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Controls/Automations Systems on the University Campus.
Key Responsibilities
Installs, repairs, maintains, calibrates and commissions ventilation equipment, thermostats, sensors, controllers, variable speed drives and related controls equipmentConfigures , troubleshoots, installs and programs electronic controllersPerforms preventive maintenance tasks on designated HVAC related equipmentPrograms building automation systems to meet occupancy needs while maximizing energy efficiencyServices low voltage controls wiringMakes recommendations for upgrading, enhancing and/or retrofitting existing equipmentPerforms all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulationsMaintains a clean work environmentAssists other tradespersons as requiredPerforms other duties as requiredNote
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
Valid Instrumentation Control Technician certificate of qualification with Red Seal designation as recognised by the Nova Scotia Department of Education or an Associate degree in Electronics, Mechanical Systems, Computer Technology, Air Conditioning or similar fieldCompletion of certified trades school program preferredFive years recent and related journey person experience in construction and maintenance areasComputer literacy and Direct Digital Controls knowledge requiredAbility to read and interpret drawings and blueprints, and equipment specificationsFamiliar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulationsAbility to take directionAbility to direct others in a foreperson capacity preferredReliable and punctualGood communication and organizational skillsKnowledge of the tools of the tradeMust be willing and able to work overtime, respond to after-hours calls and perform standby duties if requiredGeneral safety, Confined Space, Lock Out/Tag Out, Fall Protection and WHMIS training an assetAssets
