Stepping Stone is a charitable organization that provides services and support to current and former sex workers, and people who have been trafficked. Stepping Stone operates using a harm reduction model and aims to make sex work as safe and as positive as possible for all individuals involved and ensure that sex workers have equitable access to services.
Stepping Stone’s Affordable Housing is a 6‑room facility, with the goal of long‑term, stable, supportive housing for current and former sex workers.

Duties and Responsibilities- The Resident Support Worker will work with residents through a human‑centered approach, be able to assist in crisis intervention and de‑escalation, while following the policies and values of Stepping Stone.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, residents, program users, and staff.
- Engage in ongoing career development, training, and skill building.
- Ensure that names of residents are kept confidential and not shared without informed consent from the individual. All documents are kept confidential and are organized in a space that is accessible to staff.
- Build positive relationships with residents and staff while maintaining healthy boundaries.
- Update resident information in Stepping Stone's electronic database and HIFIS as required.
- Support the maintenance of a clean living space and working environment.
- Inform the House Manager and/or Executive Director of any issues with the house and surrounding area of the building.
- Community College Diploma or University Degree in Social Services, OR a combination of relevant education and experience.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing criminalization, poverty, racialization, mental health barriers, substance use, food and housing insecurity. Demonstrates understanding of colonization, oppression, associated barriers and challenges of those made marginalized.
- Has an understanding and commitment to anti‑oppressive, trauma‑informed, harm‑reduction practices, and using a human‑centered approach.
- An understanding of racism, misogyny, colonialism, consent, the social determinants of health, corrections, restorative justice, substance use, gender‑based violence, and sex work.
- Experience providing mental health support is considered an asset.
- Strong computer skills; proficient with Microsoft Office programs, and email.
- Knowledge of community resources throughout HRM.

- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
- Standard First Aid/CPR Level "C"
- Harm Reduction / Naloxone Training
- Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention or comparable De‑escalation Training
