Counsellor II – Halifax, Nova Scotia
Position:
Counsellor II (Part‑time, Regular Schedule)
The Counsellor II provides evidence‑based, client‑centered counseling to individuals navigating a wide range of personal and workplace challenges, including stress, mental health concerns, life transitions, relationship or family issues, and workplace‑related trauma. The role affords clinical autonomy while integrating within TELUS Health’s supportive network of professionals and resources.
Responsibilities- Provide evidence‑based therapy both in person and digitally from the Halifax office, using solution‑focused, brief, and longer‑term modalities customized to each client’s needs and goals.
- Support clients through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Total Mental Health (TMH) programs, addressing complex presentations such as mental health disorders, addictions, relationship concerns, and workplace stress.
- Apply strength‑based, client‑centered approaches that honor diverse backgrounds and empower individuals to achieve meaningful change.
- Maintain clinical autonomy while collaborating with a Regional Clinical Supervisor who supports career development.
- Engage in ongoing clinical consultation, peer learning, and access to continuing education opportunities.
- Use digital systems to work efficiently, leveraging initiative and adaptive problem‑solving to respond effectively when processes require adjustment.
- Serve as the Health & Safety Representative for the office, collaborating with management on workplace safety protocols.
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field.
- Minimum five years of post‑master’s direct clinical experience with diverse populations and presenting concerns.
- Current registration in good standing with one of the following:
Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT) or Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW). - Strong clinical competency in solution‑focused therapy, brief interventions, and longer‑term modalities.
- Ability to establish therapeutic rapport quickly with clients from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
- Excellent clinical judgment, self‑direction, and comfort working independently in a high‑volume practice setting.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and digital clinical tools.
- Commitment to evidence‑informed practice, ethical standards, and continuous professional development.
- Experience working with blue‑collar or trades populations and familiarity with workplace‑related trauma.
- Highly organized, solution‑oriented, and able to adapt to dynamic scheduling and caseload demands.
- Clinical experience with substance use disorders and addiction counselling.
- Previous experience in EAP, workplace mental health, or integrated care settings.
- Familiarity with local community resources and service networks.
- Additional certifications in specialized therapeutic modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, EMDR, trauma‑informed care).
- Competitive salary range: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 (part‑time equivalency $45,000.00 – $51,000.00).
