Sr. Java Developer; Java, Kafka, boot Regional Municipality

Cognizant’s Digital Engineering practice is seeking a highly qualified Sr. Java Developer with 6+ years’ experience developing and building high‑performing, scalable, enterprise applications. As a Sr. Software Engineer B2, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining high‑quality software solutions.

Location:

Halifax, Canada (Hybrid). You must be legally authorized to work in Canada without the need for employer sponsorship now or at any time in the future.

• Develop and maintain high‑quality applications using Java, Spring Boot, and React to meet business requirements.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design and deliver scalable, user‑focused solutions.
• Implement real‑time data processing using Kafka and ensure seamless system integration.
• Write clean, optimized, and responsive code using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, while following best practices through code reviews.
• Troubleshoot technical issues, participate in Agile processes, and support continuous improvement through innovation and mentorship.

• 6+ years of experience.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with Java and Spring Boot for building robust backend systems.
• Strong proficiency in React and JavaScript for developing dynamic, interactive front‑end applications.
• Proven experience with Kafka for real‑time data processing and system integration.
• Solid understanding of HTML and CSS, with the ability to design responsive and accessible web interfaces.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) is a plus.
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, with the ability to address complex technical challenges.
• Experience with code optimization, debugging, and performance tuning.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment.

Canadian Pay Transparency Statement:
The base salary for this position ranges between $69,750–110,500 per year. The successful candidate’s remuneration will depend on relevant education, work and/or management experience, and other business‑related and job‑necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance‑based bonus and benefits that support your physical, mental, and financial wellbeing.
