Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the casual part-time position of Weekend Rental Program Supervisor with the Adventure Earth Centre - St Mary’s Boat Club location.

Adventure Earth Programs at the St. Mary’s Boat Club engage children, youth and families in paddling based experiential programs, youth leadership, and outdoor recreation. As part of the Halifax Municipality’s Parks and Recreation services, The St Mary’s Boat Club programs give children and youth safe access to water activities and the knowledge and experience to practice them safety. All the St.

Mary’s Boat Club programs are carried out on The North West Arm in Halifax.

The Weekend Rental Supervisor will support the weekend rental staff to provide canoe and stand up paddleboard rentals on The North West Arm in Halifax. This position also manages the fleet of kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and related equipment, delivers excellent customer service, ensures participant safety and provides ongoing communication with participants of programs and provides support for staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the Adventure Earth Centre’s and St Mary’s Boat Club core values, understand, and uphold HRM policies and procedures
  • Attend all required training sessions including water safety and water rescue training
  • Independently organize staff schedules and provide support to staff
  • Work independently to communicate with participants, staff and supervisors
  • Set up program spaces, organize materials and independently open and close facility
  • Organize, manage and maintain equipment and supplies
  • Ensure the safety and positive experience of participants and staff
  • Provide feedback to staff and supervisors
  • Support and schedule the training of weekend rental staff
  • Support persons with diverse needs and disabilities in programs (e.g. adapting activities, developing individualized plans when needed, etc.)
  • Work collaboratively with other coordinators and supervisors to maintain a positive work environment and clean program space
  • Communicate upcoming programs and cancellations with participants
  • Demonstrate great customer service will providing experiences for the public
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Experience:

  • Must hold current certification in Emergency First Aid including Level C CPR or higher valid through to September 30th 2026.
  • Must hold or Pleasure Craft Operator Card or be willing to obtain
  • Must hold Restricted Operator's License (Maritime) – VFH Radio Training or be willing to obtain
  • Must have previous paddling experience
  • Must hold a canoe and stand-up paddleboard skills certification or be willing to obtain
  • Considered an Asset:
  • Previous leadership experience with paddling programs, outdoor, environmental and/or outdoor recreation
  • Experience using motorized watercraft
  • Experience with scheduling and organizing staff teams
  • Previous experience with the Adventure Earth Centre or St Mary’s Boat Club an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License an asset
  • Paddle Canada or ORCKA Canoe and Stand Up Paddleboard certifications an asset
  • Previous experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
  • Advanced First Aid an asset
  • Studies in Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Education or similar courses an asset
  • Conditions of Employment:
  • Applicants must be willing to obtain WHMIS training
