Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Athletics & Recreation, the Head Coach will be responsible for all areas of leadership related to the Men’s Hockey Program. In carrying out the responsibilities, the Head Coach will be expected to represent Dalhousie University to the highest standards of personal and professional conduct and will be accountable for complying with all AUS, U SPORTS and Dalhousie rules, regulations and policies.

Key Responsibilities

Effectively lead the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological preparation of the team and student-athletes. The goal is to ensure that the team is competitive at the highest levels of AUS and U SPORTS competition.

Develop an appropriate program for the recruitment and retention of top-level student-athletes for the varsity team.

Develop and implement fundraising initiatives designed to assist the team in advancing to position among the top teams in AUS and U SPORTS. This includes developing and managing camp programs.

Develop, implement, and evaluate a communications plan to promote the varsity men’s hockey program. Promote positive alumni and community relations.

Manage the budget for the men’s hockey team.

Note

Evening and weekend hours are required. Travel to other locations (primarily in Atlantic Canada) is required as part of recruitment, regular-season games, playoffs and national championship travel.

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant field with a minimum of five years’ experience coaching high-performance hockey and administering elite level athletes and programs (or equivalent combination of training and experience).

Competition Development Certification (High Performance
1).

The successful candidate must have completed or be in the process of completing the NCCP “Comp Dev” Coach Education Program and Making Ethical Decisions (MED).

The ability to work within a university environment and with the public at large.

Must possess superior organizational skills, and the ability to recruit throughout Canada and a desire to build alumni support.

Commitment to the total development of the student-athlete.

Assets

Coaching experience at the University, College, Canada Games or Provincial Team level.
