The Relief Deckhand is administratively responsible to the Supervisors, Ferry Operations. While working on a vessel, the Relief Deckhand is functionally responsible to the Vessel’s Captain.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
:
The Relief Deckhand shall:
Conduct duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Ferry Operations Manual and the published ferry scheduleMaintain upper deck cleanliness, shovel snow from ferry upper decks and spread urea as required to maintain safe conditions for passengers and crewAssist Ferry Crew members as directed by the CaptainOperate ferry ramps to facilitate the safe embarkation and disembarkation of passengersPerform duties in accordance with the Muster List for each ferryPerform duties in accordance with the Ferry Security Plan for each ferryReports any irregularities to the Captain and the Supervisors, Ferry OperationsWhen assigned Deck Force, assist with planned and corrective maintenance activities at the Woodside maintenance facility; in particular:
Paint ferry vessel interior and exterior surfaces and Conduct minor repairsOther duties as assigned by the Supervisors, Ferry OperationsQUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalentAbility to communicate in English (oral and written)Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
Required Certificates Recognized by Transport Canada:
Current Marine MedicalMED with respect to STCW Basic SafetyProficiency in Survival Craft Other Than Fast Rescue CraftValid First AidSix-month sea service would be considered an assetCertificates Considered an Asset:Passenger Safety Management Certificate
