Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent, full-time position of Utility Operator 1 - Street Sweeper with Infrastructure Maintenance & Operations (IMO) in Public Works. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Safe operation of a Mechanical / Vacuum Street Sweeper;

Load and unload equipment and materials as required;

Maintain and safely operate assigned tools/equipment;

Work safely and cooperatively assisting other classifications;

Contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM;

Attend work on a regular basis;

Participate in winter works if required;

Must be willing to upgrade training to operate winter works equipment;

Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience;

Must have valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License Class 3 with air brake endorsement;

Must have one (1) year of recent related experience operating under a Class 3 license;

Must successfully complete HRM Mechanical Sweeper training and able to provide current certification;

Good driving record (Registry of Motor Vehicle abstract may be required before a formal job offer is made).

Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities

Able to work independently, and as a team player;

Able to follow instructions, and communicate effectively including oral and written communication;

Must have good attendance and work record;

Working knowledge of methods, materials and equipment usage involved in IMO;

WHMIS, CPR/First Aid certification or ability to successfully complete.

Capable and willing to work inside and outside in varying weather conditions.
