Position Overview:

The Lead Aircraft De-icer, reporting to the Deicing Operations Manager, will work as part of a team to provide superior service and stakeholder satisfaction through responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of equipment utilized for the purpose of tasks related to de-icing aircraft while ensuring the well-being of self and all internal and external stakeholders. The Lead Aircraft De-icer provides leadership, technical support and fosters growth and development based on Inland’s values, while providing excellent customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

Proactively foster a learning safety culture by modeling a safe work ethic and promoting the value of open reporting and shared safety responsibility. Follow all safety policies, standards, and procedures in order to achieve a safe and healthy work environment for all staff, customers, and visitors. Similarly support Inland’s environmental commitments by helping to limit our organization’s impact on the ecosystem;

Ensure that Inland is following all Government Labour, Health and Safety laws, regulations and policies;

Abide by Inland’s procedural handbooks, operational plans, and directives of management to ensure that all work is done according to specifications and/or regulations;

Ensure that fellow employees follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and they are in compliance with environmental laws, guidelines and reporting;

Assist the station management team with the responsibilities of the overall safety and performance of the de-icing operation;

Train, assign, and assess work of Aircraft De-icer’s;

Provide daily shift briefings to Aircraft De-icer’s and report all information about shifts to Management on duty;

Uphold and follow the duties related to de/anti-icing aircraft according to procedures for both airlines and Inland/ IDS (including inspecting aircraft for frozen contamination);

Participate in pre-planning for de/anti-icing events by performing checks on equipment and servicing equipment with fuel or glycol;

Operate equipment within close proximity to airfield personnel, aircraft and other airfield equipment safely and efficiently;

Be alert and aware of other apron traffic, and to only begin de-icing when it can be done safely without interfering with aircraft movement;

Promptly and accurately complete all associated paperwork as required;

Professionally communicate with aircraft operators (pilots), spraying operators, GRV operators, and other stakeholders in a clear and concise manner via two-way radio;

Ensure proper shutdown of pads, including paperwork and log books; that all maintenance issues have been logged and reported to maintenance and all proper shutdown procedures for the equipment are followed;

Testing of aircraft de-icing fluids as required;

Perform daily Vehicle walk-around inspections utilizing appropriate checklists;

Perform and record light maintenance tasks on Vehicles and Equipment, and immediately report any repair requirements;

Promote the best interest of the company by fostering goodwill and support between IDS and its customers ensuring that Inland’s policy of superior service and satisfaction are met;
