SEN Teaching Assistant

Academics is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant that has a good knowledge and experience using Makaton as a form of communication and a strong commitment to supporting children with additional needs in schools across Halifax.

The Role of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

• Supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups

• Using Makaton consistently to support communication, understanding and inclusion

• Assisting the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities

• Supporting pupils' emotional, social and behavioural development

• Creating a safe, positive and nurturing learning environment

The ideal SEN Teaching Assistant should have:

• Have experience working with children with SEN (ASD, speech and language needs, or complex needs desirable)

• Be confident and competent in using Makaton

• Be patient, empathetic and adaptable

• Work well as part of a team and communicate effectively with staff and parents

• Hold relevant qualifications or be willing to undertake further training
