Police Liaison PractitionerThe closing date is 24 February 2026
Hello, Im Danny, and I lead the Calderdale IHBT. Our team is dedicated to providing compassionate, person‑centred care to people when they need it most. We’re looking for a Band6 Police Liaison Practitioner to join us and help ensure individuals in crisis receive timely and appropriate support.
We are looking for someone confident, compassionate and resilient, with experience in risk assessment and supporting people with complex mental health needs. Crisis or liaison experience would be an advantage, but what matters most is your ability to work collaboratively and uphold our values.
You will work 12‑hour day and night shifts as part of our 24/7 rota, based between the Police Patrol Room and our Home‑Based Treatment Team office. In this role, you will triage police logs, provide advice, and at times attend incidents in the community to support officers, complete assessments and plan care. You will work closely with police colleagues, families and carers to de‑escalate situations, manage risk and guide people to the right services, helping to reduce unnecessary use of Section 136.
If you are committed to making a difference for people in crisis and building strong partnerships across health and policing, we would love to hear from you.
If you would like an informal chat about the role, I’d be very happy to speak with you.
All employees of the Trust are strongly encouraged to have their up‑to‑date flu vaccination to protect staff and patients.
Main duties of the jobSupport calls to individuals may be required and there will be occasions when it is necessary to attend incidents in the community with officers to facilitate comprehensive mental health assessments and care planning. You may have occasional need to assess individuals at the police station.
You will advise on appropriate pathways and sign‑post to various agencies where indicated, reducing the need for any police interventions and avoiding use of Section 136 of the Mental Health Act where appropriate. We aim to practice proactively to avert a crisis and de‑escalate situations which may be highly charged.
A background in crisis /liaison work would be an advantage but more importantly you will be competent and confident in working independently, be resilient and enjoy a challenge with a can‑do approach and attitude. You must be able to formulate and document plans and strategies to manage risk effectively whilst involving the service user, police colleagues, families and carers. The environment can be fast‑paced so an ability to work under pressure is a must.
The successful applicant must have experience in risk assessment within an acute setting, be highly motivated & feel confident in working with service users who have complex mental health & social needs.
At the time of advertising, this role does meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK. We look forward to receiving your application.
