Specialist Biomedical Scientist Expert Practitioner in Dissection

Overview

Calderdale Royal Hospital is looking for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist with expertise in Histological Dissection or capable of developing the required skills as a trainee.

• Rotate and maintain competence across cellular pathology, non-gynae cytology, and andrology, and within the mortuary facility.
• Perform routine investigations and ensure quality of service, following necessary training.
• Examine, prepare for dissection, and dissect specimens under consultant histopathologist guidance, rotating through histology, andrology and mortuary.
• Assist in provision of cellular pathology and mortuary services for the trusts and CCGs, providing specialist knowledge and technical skills for processing, analysing and interpreting diagnostic test results.
• Train junior staff and contribute to laboratory and clinical audit and service development.
• Participate in extended working rota and cross‑site to Huddersfield as required.
• Engage in continuous professional development and pursue further study where necessary.

• IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology or MSc in Cellular Pathology and IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection.
• Flexibility to work early‑morning and weekend shifts.
• Willingness and ability to complete the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection within a 3‑year timescale if not already obtained.
• Strong analytical, technical and communication skills.
