Brake Press Machine Operator (2nd Shift) Job Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine metal fabrication related duties in support of the parts production process. Responsible for using control mechanisms or direct physical activity to transport structural steel sections inside the production area utilizing a pendant controlled overhead crane.
Base Pay Range$18.50/hr - $21.00/hr
Educational RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED, plus 1‑3 years fabrication machine operator experience or related field. Experience with blocking machine, brake press machine, seamer machine, angle drill, multi‑head torch, rack punch, radial arm drill, and bed drill is a plus.
Qualifications- Comprehensive understanding of shop practices and procedures.
- Basic understanding of producing and inspecting precision components.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, diagrams, tolerance information, route sheets, factory work orders, safety guidelines, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Proficient in mathematical operations and applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical situations.
- Skill in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, calipers, dial indicators, protractors, and tape measures to ensure tight tolerances.
- Knowledge of basic math, various dies, overhead and jib crane operation.
- Ability to read tape measure and degree finder; work in extreme temperatures.
- Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 lb; stand, bend, stoop, squat, or kneel regularly; climb stairs and ladders.
- Inspect own and others’ parts using tools like tape measures, scales, calipers, and computerized measuring devices.
- Read and complete production orders, QA, and manufacturing documentation.
- Perform secondary operations such as cleaning and debarring required by the manufacturing process.
- Operate overhead hoists and forklifts to move material and equipment for machine operations; arrange parts as needed for production.
- Record machinery operation variances; complete basic preventive maintenance; perform visual safety checks.
- Clean work area; assist other machine operators as required.
- Follow safety regulations, maintain clean and orderly work area, and wear appropriate PPE.
- Follow corporate safety guidelines and participate in audits and incident investigations.
- Report malfunctions to supervisor immediately.
- Visually inspect parts to ensure within tolerance before bending.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality; follow shop foreman’s instructions.
- Work overtime when requested.
- Full‑time shop exposure; extreme temperatures occasionally.
- No travel required.
- Standing up 8‑10 hours per day, up to 6 days a week.
- Good vision, hearing, smell, and balance required.
- Must frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive motions.
Full‑time
Expected hours: 40–55 per week
Schedule- 10‑hour shift
- 8‑hour shift
- Second shift (5 PM–3 AM)
- Monday to Friday; weekends as needed
