Base pay range$31.50/hr - $33.50/hr
Responsible for ensuring the highest degree of product quality is achieved via current manufacturing processes. This position will work with the company‑wide QA/QC team.
Primary duties will include the visual welding inspection of poles and heavy structural steel assemblies for compliance with the specified detail drawings as well as AWS and AISC specifications.
Qualifications- 3 – 5 years of experience in the welding of heavy steel assemblies, preferably with a portion of that time spent in an inspection role.
- In‑depth ability to read and understand shop drawings, especially weld symbols.
- Basic knowledge of AISC and AWS national codes.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or other continuous improvement techniques desired.
- Maintain an attitude conducive to progress through positive change, continuous improvement, and an active contribution to the teamwork concepts.
- Possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must possess a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, follow directions.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Has overall responsibility for performing the visual inspection of welded joints at the assigned plant.
- Ensures that the fabricated steel is welded as planned, meets customer specifications, and inspections are completed as required to support workflow and sequence.
- Reports and maintains inspection results. Prepares documentation required by the customer for certification that all quality procedures were followed.
- Performs in‑process weld inspections on poles and heavy structural steel welded assemblies.
- Monitors and executes activities related to ensuring that inspections of welded assemblies are completed to the requirements of applicable specifications and codes.
- Reads new project specifications.
- Interprets drawings, customer specifications and standards of moderate complexity.
- Is responsible for assisting the Quality Control Manager in administering the AISC program at the assigned plant.
- Works with other QA/QC inspectors to organize inspection work to be done on a daily and weekly basis.
- Assists in identifying and solving quality non‑conformances in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
- Assists shop employees with questions and clarifications on QC issues as needed.
- Works with QA/QC team to ensure the quality control program designed to make sure continuous production of products consistent with established standards is implemented and being followed.
- Addresses quality issues related to non‑conforming material or components and obtain timely disposition in order to maintain production flow.
- Quality, accuracy, thoroughness, reliability of work performed.
- Projects completed safely, with expected quality, on time and within budget.
- Quality problems closed out in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
- Internal and external customer satisfaction with project quality.
- Inspection records and notebooks kept up to date and organized.
- Effectively communicates with management & employees to establish and maintain trust and respect.
- Timeliness and adherence to inspection deadlines and schedules for meeting customer needs.
- Maintains the integrity of confidential business information, conducts business ethically and professionally.
- Consistently reports to work on time and absenteeism held to a minimum.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Level II Certification in U.T. or M.T. documented successful completion of the required academic hours of training, signed by an accredited level III instructor in the method.
- CWI using ASW D1.1 code.
- Manufacturing floor/shop and general office.
- Occasional travel by automobile may be required.
- During the course of work, the incumbent will be subject to seasonal weather conditions.
- Exposure to shop hazards.
