TurningMachinist Position Summary
The CNC Turning Machinist plays a critical role in producing high‑quality, intricate parts within a dynamic, fast‑paced manufacturing environment. This position requires proficiency in setting up and operating CNC turning machine centers—specifically Doosan and DMG Mori with twin‑spindle capabilities—alongside MDI (Manual Data Input) programming and precise manual inspection techniques. By leveraging strong problem‑solving skills and close attention to detail, the Machinist will work with diverse materials (aluminum, plastic, and steel), troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement throughout the machining process.
By collaborating with cross‑functional teams and maintaining clear communication across shifts, the CNC Turning Machinist ensures all parts meet Dahlquist Machine by Fathom’s rigorous quality standards and on‑time delivery commitments. This role demands the ability to make critical decisions under pressure, a commitment to safe work practices, and adherence to company EH&S policies. Through expert technical knowledge and dedication to efficiency, the CNC Turning Machinist contributes to Dahlquist Machine by Fathom’s growth and aligns with Fathom’s on‑demand manufacturing vision.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate CNC turning machine centers (Doosan and DMG Mori) with twin‑spindle capabilities, live tooling, and bar feeders
- Perform MDI (Manual Data Input) programming for efficient part production
- Conduct manual inspections using gauges and instruments to verify part quality prior to CMM inspection
- Interpret complex 2D drawings, applying GD&T principles
- Monitor parts throughout the machining process to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Adhere to company quality and safety procedures
- Communicate and collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and optimize performance
- Participate in Lean manufacturing events to drive process improvements
- Associate degree in a relevant field, or 3+ years of experience in milling, or 5+ years of overall CNC machining experience
- Familiarity with Doosan or DMG machines preferred
- Experience with various materials, such as aluminum, plastic, and steel
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Proficiency in manual inspection using gauges and instruments in support of CMM inspection
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment
- Capable of handling sensitive and confidential information
- Good communication skills for effective teamwork

5:45 a.m.
- 3:45 p.m., Monday – Thursday
