Adult Education Career Transition and Workforce Readiness Coordinator ()

Location:

Keefe Center, Hamden, CT 06517

Employment Type:

Part‑time, non‑union, up to 15 hours/week (flexible, may include evenings)

Qualifications
  • BS degree in social work, counseling or related area
  • Impressive knowledge of post‑secondary education, workforce development systems, career training opportunities, and local labor market trends
  • Familiarity with digital tools such as Northstar, My Next Move, and CTHires
  • Ability to counsel students to assist them achieve academic and/or post‑secondary goals
  • Current or future connections with area businesses and community resources
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse adult education program preferred
  • Bi‑lingual applicant preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education preferred
  • Ability to participate in activities that support professional growth of knowledge and skills
  • Ability to utilize technology to interact with adult learners
  • Proficiency in Operating Systems, Presentation Software, Spreadsheets, LACES, Canva, GPT Chat, and career development tools
  • Experience in career coaching, workforce development, or adult education
  • Knowledge of the sixteen career pathways (National Career Cluster Framework)
  • Other qualifications acceptable as deemed appropriate by the Board
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with employers to secure employment opportunities
  • Assist students in job searching and placement
  • Assist students in using resources and technology for job and post‑secondary education searches
  • Assist students in setting career goals and developing individualized career plans
  • Build relationships with area colleges, universities, training institutions, and training programs
  • Provide comprehensive counseling services to a diverse body of adult learners to support post‑secondary college and career success
  • Assist with college applications, scholarships, job searches, and prepare candidates for interviews and entry into the workforce
  • Guide career pathways, certifications, and higher education opportunities
  • Deliver soft skills and confidence‑building training, helping learners develop workplace professionalism, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Facilitate two‑way communication between students and partners (One Stop centers, local employers, local community colleges, training programs, community agencies, Chamber of Commerce) to expand opportunities for adult learners
  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ career interests, skills, and barriers to employment using tools such as O
    * NET, , Holland Hexagon, Myers‑Briggs
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with local businesses, training providers, community agencies, and the Chamber of Commerce to expand opportunities for adult learners
  • Coordinate guest speakers, field trips, and informational interviews related to career exploration
  • Maintain positive working relationships with town agencies to ensure ongoing collaboration and access to municipal resources
  • Identify and refer students to wraparound services such as housing, transportation, childcare, and mental health support to remove barriers to success
  • Assist learners with job readiness, including resume writing, job searching, interview prep, and use of tools like Canva and ChatGPT for document formatting
  • Plan, promote, and execute career events such as job fairs, career panels, and info sessions
  • Guide students to relevant training and certification programs that lead to industry‑recognized credentials and long‑term employment
  • Maintain and disseminate information on job openings, recruitment events, and workforce opportunities from the CT Department of Labor, Career Resources, Inc., and local employers

This position is located at the Hamden Adult Education Learning Lab in the Keefe Community Center.
