Purpose of the Position
The Construction Director, Roadways reports directly to the Project Director. This position will direct and be accountable for all pre-execution planning activities to ensure all necessary construction packages have been readied and available for use. The Construction Director will be responsible for all site execution matters, including direct-hire and subcontracted labour supervision, safe and timely performance of the work, and ensuring quality standards are upheld.
This role serves as the critical interface between design, utilities, traffic, planning, and construction, influencing early decisions to reduce downstream risk and ensure seamless transition into delivery. Once the project moves into construction, the role will transition into leading the Roads execution team across all sections.
What You'll Do Here:
Ability to develop means and methods, sequencing and staging, and general construction methodology for road and guideway construction in a utility-dense urban environmentsPrepare and staff a construction team made of experienced and capable supervisory personnelLiaise with engineering staff to ensure constructability of designsDevelop hiring plan and ensure labour relations issues are pro-actively managedResponsible for all site execution matters, including the timely performance of the workAccountable for all site safety and human performance issues, and for collaborating with the project Safety ManagerMaintain a positive relationship with client construction counterpartAccountable for ensuring all project execution resources have received the required trainingIdentifies succession plans for key individuals and implements necessary steps to train these individualsEnsure work is performed within quality system requirementsInvolvement in developing and ensuring compliance to staff training rosterEnsure verification of Supervisor qualificationsEnsure a strong safety culture is reinforced continuouslyOther duties as assignedWhat You Bring to the Team:
Civil Engineering background preferred, or equivalent hands‑on roadway construction experience15+ years of experience in civil construction, with a strong focus on roadway worksProven experience delivering urban roadway projects in constrained environmentsStrong background in complex staging, traffic management, and utilities coordinationExperience in Alliance, Design Build, Progressive Design Build, and/or P3 delivery modelsInternational experience acceptable were aligned to comparable urban Alliance/DB/P3 projectsStrong collaborator with the ability to influence design and delivery teamsExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsAbility to work under pressure, prioritize competing demands, and support large, multi‑section projectsReason for Vacancy:
