THE OPPORTUNITY

Canyon City Construction LP is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Journeyman Carpenter to join our construction team on an auxiliary/on-call basis. Reporting to the Site Manager, you will perform a wide range of carpentry duties on residential, commercial, and civil construction projects while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship, safety, and professionalism.

WHAT YOU'LL DO – AT A GLANCE
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications
  • Perform a variety of carpentry tasks including framing, finishing, roofing, and cabinetry
  • Install structures and fixtures such as doors, windows, trim, hardware, and other building components
  • Take precise measurements and complete layout work to ensure accuracy
  • Select, handle, cut, and shape construction materials according to project requirements
  • Collaborate with Site Managers, project teams, subcontractors, and other trades
  • Maintain high-quality workmanship and ensure completed work meets project specifications
  • Identify construction challenges and implement practical solutions
  • Follow all company safety procedures and Yukon workplace safety requirements
  • Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings and inspections
  • Promote and contribute to a strong safety culture on all worksites
WHAT YOU BRING

Experience & Qualifications

  • Journeyman Carpenter Certification (Red Seal is an asset)
  • Proven experience in residential and commercial construction environments
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings
  • Demonstrated expertise in framing, finishing, cabinetry, and general carpentry
  • Excellent measuring, layout, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of construction safety regulations and best practices
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting materials and working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Possess and maintain a personal set of carpentry hand tools and tool belt
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past three years

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Based in Whitehorse, with work is performed primarily on active construction sites
  • Seasonal, project-based environment, with possibility to work through winter
  • Standard 8:00-4:30 schedule, but it may require irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet project schedules
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions and physical work demands
  • Frequent standing, lifting, climbing, bending, and other physical activities associated with construction work
