OverviewSpecial Education Lead Teacher is a leadership role that involves working closely with the building administration team to support students' programming along with their families and staff; and will serve as a liaison between the building and Special Education Department. Although there are differences in expectation at the various levels and/or programs, Special Education Leads typically are expected to assume the following duties.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Work with building administrators, general education, and special education teachers to assure inclusion of students in the least restrictive environment.
- Serve as special education representative on building leadership, IEP, and intervention teams.
- Attend monthly leadership meetings with building and district administration, and follow-up with staff.
- Collaborate with Special Education Supervisor and building administration to implement corrective action plans.
- Model data-based decision making.
- Manage Due Process and Compliance.
- Serve as an instructional leader assisting to improve the academic and behavioral outcomes of students on IEPs.
- Support teams and students with implementation of behavior support plans and crisis response.
- Facilitate Special Education Department meetings and Para educator meetings.
- Communicate, train, and support changes in special education process or procedures to building staff.
- Participate in interview teams for special education staff.
- Provide training and coaching to special education staff.
- Assist with coordination of scheduling for Paraeducators and students.
- Support new students transitioning into special education.
- Coordinate Child Study Meetings.
- Support the budgetary processes for equipment, supplies, field trips, etc.
Requires Any Special Education License. Must possess a strong understanding of due process, special education processes and procedures, and problem solving skills.
Preferred QualificationsSpecial Ed Behavior experience preferred.
Start Date and FillsStart Date:
8/31/26. This position may be filled 7 days after the initial posting date by an appropriately licensed candidate (PELSB Tier 3 or Tier 4 license); or by a candidate eligible for PELSB Tier 1 or Tier 2 license, or OFP (Out of Field Permission) after a 15-day posting period.
Rate of Pay: $53,529 to $106,251. Rate is based on full time equivalency and verified placement on the salary schedule, with 1.0 FTE being full time. View additional terms and benefits here.
