Position: Manager, Career Education (Graduate & Specialized Programs)

Overview

The DeGroote School of Business, part of McMaster University, is seeking a leader for its Career and Professional Development team. The role includes strategic planning, program management, work‑integrated learning oversight, accreditation reporting, and human resources management. The incumbent will supervise a team, build partnerships across the university, and ensure an inclusive student experience.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Planning/Leadership

    • Support strategic career outcomes for business students, including study‑abroad and new‑grad opportunities.

    • Identify and develop operational activities to support employer retention, alumni engagement and professional development.

    • Create student communication plans with marketing and communications teams.

    • Develop career education initiatives in partnership with Academic Programs.

    • Conduct research on employment trends, job gaps, and social media impact.
  • Program Management of Career Education Activities

    • Enhance the career education model across all student levels.

    • Lead a team to design pathway education, workshops, and new programs that promote career choices.
  • Work‑Integrated Learning

    • Identify and expand work‑integrated learning opportunities for all students.

    • Oversee programs to ensure compliance with academic policy and work‑integrated learning standards.

    • Collaborate with the Registrar’s office, SAS, and other units to support co‑op/internship activities.
  • Accreditation & Reporting

    • Ensure that operating procedures align with Assurance of Learning, AACSB accreditation, CEWIL standards, MCU experiential tracking, and QS rankings.
  • Human Resources Management

    • Coach and supervise staff, develop goals, provide performance feedback.

    • Recruit and manage both full‑time and student staff.

    • Promote collaboration across career teams and train staff in career education delivery.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in business, education, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Preference for Human Resources Management Diploma/Adult Education Diploma and Ontario Certified Career Development Certification or similar.
  • Experience with the Canadian educational system and program development/evaluation.
  • Workshop development and facilitation skills for diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of leadership experience in a related specialty area.
  • Previous experience leading a team, preferably in a unionised environment.

Pay Transparency Statement

The posted hiring range represents McMaster’s typical hiring range for this position. Actual starting salary will depend on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions. Candidates may be hired at a higher rate within the full range for exceptional expertise or performance.
