As the Resource Consultant, you will provide oversight of an assigned caseload of licensed child care centres to facilitate the adoption of inclusive programs, provide resources and implement best practices that facilitate the meaningful inclusion of children (0 – 12 years of age) in all aspects of their programs. HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT🎯

Client Service

  • Complete observations/assessments on children to identify strengths, functional skills, responsiveness, interactions and learning style, and establish whether further referrals are required.
  • Encourage and support classroom educators in implementing strategies for capacity building.
  • Implement strategies with children, in collaboration with educators, using a class-wide approach.
  • Model strategies for educators and/or Inclusion Facilitators as appropriate.
  • Provide assistance/guidance to families in collaboration with educators to develop and facilitate family engagement.
  • Support identified children through the transition to school process in partnership with Licensed Child Care Programs (LCCPs), families and the Boards of Education.
  • Develop Individual Program Plans and support the development of Individual Support Plans as needed.
  • Coordinate meetings/case conferences with community partners and incorporate recommendations from community partners into program plans.
  • Act as a role model and provide educators with resources on inclusion, developmental disabilities, and behaviour management.

Communication

  • Ensure all documentation and reporting are completed as necessary in order to monitor the child’s progress and meet regulatory requirements, including those of the organization, the Ontario Childcare and Early Years Act, and the City of Hamilton.
  • Gather and maintain client records in the organization's database (Share Vision), including but not limited to parent and staff input, direct observations, and professional/clinical assessments.
  • As the primary point of contact, communicate with and support Licensed Childcare Providers through on-site visits, email, and virtual consultations.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation relating to the Individualized Program Plan (IPP) process is maintained as required.

Teamwork

  • Coach and mentor alongside Inclusion Facilitators, providing guidance as needed to deliver seamless service experiences for educators.
  • As required, direct the activities of placement students and ensure the work placement provides a quality learning opportunity and enhanced support to the Special Needs Resourcing team.
  • Participate in Special Needs Resourcing (SNR) projects under the direction of the hiring manager.

  • Promote and demonstrate the Vision and Mission of the organization.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, the Child Care and Early Years Act and the College of Early Childhood Educators to continuously improve the safety of the workplace.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING🎓

  • Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education.
  • A member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Resource Consultant certificate or equivalent.
  • Prior experience working in the child care field with children with disabilities and their families.
  • Certified in First Aid, including infant/child CPR.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the philosophy of inclusion.
