Position: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - Greek & Roman Studies

Position Overview

CLA position in Greek and Roman Studies with specialization in Greek History and additional focus in Greek language.

The Department of Greek and Roman Studies at McMaster University invites applications for a two-year Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) position in Greek History and Greek language at the level of Assistant Professor. The appointment will commence on August 1, 2026 and continue through July 31, 2028.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Classics and demonstrate evidence of research productivity, teaching excellence at all levels (both in‑person and online), and a strong reputation for graduate‑level language instruction.

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Greek language and a keen interest in collaborative teaching and research.

Responsibilities

Teach 21 instructional units (approximately 7 semester‑long courses) per academic year, together with administrative responsibilities. The teaching/service load is divided 80/20.

Pay Transparency Statement

The starting salary for this position will be no less than $94,167 and will be determined based on rank, discipline, experience, and qualifications. Salaries for faculty members progress through a Career Progress/Merit Plan.
