Overview
Student Affairs at McMaster collaborates to provide inclusive student support. This role leads the Spiritual Care and Learning Community (SCLC) to deliver spiritual care to students, staff, and faculty.
Responsibilities
Oversight of Spiritual Care and Counsel
Provide strategic direction of spiritual care and counsel to students, staff and faculty.
Serve as an enabling leader and advisor to individuals and RSS groups, encouraging inter‑relationship and intersectional values.
Lead and oversee the SCLC group, including meetings and recruitment of new members.
Provide guidance to senior administrators on religious pluralism, inclusion, and spiritual well‑being.
Oversee recruitment, training and supervision of new SCLC members, ensuring alignment with EDI principles.
Program Development, Education and Assessment
Develop, implement and evaluate professional programs, continuing education and interventions aligned with the SCLC mandate.
Consult with campus and community stakeholders to support outreach, promotion and educational opportunities.
Manage the SCLC website and printed materials to promote knowledge and practice.
Program and Services Administration
Oversee the SCLC strategic plan with 13 leaders.
Manage the SCLC budget and expenditures.
Prepare program and funding proposals and compile annual reports.
Represent the SCLC at university events and facilitate crisis‑response vigils.
Maintain the SCLC lounge, prayer and meeting space.
Raise awareness of SCLC profile and services within university and the broader community.
Consult on resources for RSS communities and inter‑peace groups.
Collaborate with other university offices, faculties and units.
Serve on committees and advisory bodies intersecting with the SCLC.
Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree in Theology, Education, Social Work or equivalent.
Experience:
Minimum 7–10 years working in pluralistic religious, secular and spiritual contexts with strong people and advising skills.
Knowledge/
Skills:
Interfaith principles and best practice in delivering spiritual care and education.
Leadership in interfaith, secular, and spiritual pluralism.
Strategic advisory and relationship management.
Advanced spiritual care, pastoral support, and values‑based advising.
Conflict resolution and facilitated dialogue.
Program development, supervision and cross‑campus collaboration.
Salary Information
Salary Range: $91,464 – $137,196 (annual)
