Reporting to the Manager, Student Success & Engagement, the Coordinator, Retention Initiatives & Student Support leads student retention initiatives, proactive outreach and advising interventions that promote student success, engagement and persistence. The incumbent provides academic advising, transition support, referrals and coordinated services for scholarship students, Better Jobs Ontario students, WSIB students, military-connected students, academically at-risk students and other identified student populations.

The role also develops and evaluates retention initiatives and scholarship programs through data analysis and assessment, while serving as a key resource for students, faculty and college partners by coordinating supports, resolving inquiries and fostering student success across the College.

• Provides academic, program and transition support to targeted student populations, including scholarship students, Better Jobs Ontario students, WSIB students, military-connected students and academically at-risk students.
• Provides direct personal and academic advising support to students, grounded in an advising model that emphasizes developmental, intrusive and lifecycle theory and practice.
• Refers students to appropriate services when necessary, including tutoring, counselling, Accessible Learning Services, Financial Assistance, Student Life, Career Services and other college supports.
• Engages scholarship recipients to provide support and mentorship through events, award ceremonies, career fairs, Open Houses, one-on-one meetings, small group meetings and presentations.
• In partnership with other departments, including Student Life, MSA, LSC and Career Services, promotes events and activities that support student engagement, belonging and success.
• Provides guidance and referral support to scholarship students and other supported student groups to assist with academic success and persistence in their program.
• Communicates with coordinators and faculty, as appropriate, regarding student achievement, progression, academic performance and required thresholds.
• Compiles statistical reports and produces data for analysis, which may be used for internal reporting, donor reports, program evaluation and student success planning.
• Communicates with Financial Assistance regarding student progression, scholarship requirements and related student support needs.
• Works with Foundation to develop scholarship recipient post-graduation surveys to assess student experience, identify opportunities for improvement and support donor communications.

• Oversees and coordinates current and future student retention initiatives, targeted supports and interventions for identified student populations, including scholarship students such as Canerector, Schulich and other scholarship recipients, Better Jobs Ontario students, WSIB students, military-connected students, and academically at-risk students.
• Coordinates initiatives such as:
  • Proactive advising model, including Orientation and information sessions, and academically at-risk student intervention.
  • Late Start Campaign.
  • Communication strategy focused on psychologically attuned messaging to support early engagement with high-risk students ahead of a new semester.
