Elementary Occasional Teacher About The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board

The role and responsibilities of an Occasional teacher could include, but is not limited to:

• Demonstrate strong understanding of the Ontario Elementary Curriculum and related Ministry documents.
• Plan meaningful learning activities when required, ensuring continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Use a variety of instructional tools and strategies, including technology, to enhance learning and meet diverse learning styles, strengths, and needs.
• Implement strategies to maintain routines, manage behaviour, and ensure smooth transitions.
• Adapt lessons and materials to support multilingual learners, students with IEPs, and varied readiness levels.
• Utilize assessment and evaluation practices.
• Cultivate a space of belonging by embedding practices of Indigenizing, inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility in classrooms and schools . Done in alignment with HWDSB principles and tools, such as: A commitment to cultivating and nurturing meaningful relationships between HWDSB and the Indigenous Education Circle, as outlined in our Equity and Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression resources, such as
• Communicates clearly and respectfully with students, staff, and community to support understanding and engagement.

• Candidates must be certified by the (in good standing). Candidates with transitional certificates are welcome to apply.
• Candidates must hold qualifications to teach within at least two divisions (i.e. Primary/Junior, Junior/Intermediate).
• Availability and commitment to work a minimum of 30 full days per school year, 10 days from September to January, 20 days from February to the last instructional day of the year.

• Transferable skills, including lived experience and varied education/work/volunteer experience that may be considered valuable to the position.
• Commitment to building inclusive and accessible learning and working environments where every student experiences a sense of belonging.
• Experience working with diverse communities , students with special needs, and/or in high-priority schools locally or abroad.
• Applicable leadership experience (e.g., special assignment, consultant, itinerant teacher).
• Evidence of participation in co
  -curricular and/or extra- curricular activities within schools.
• Additional AQs and language fluency in addition to English and French.
