Water​/Wastewater Project Manager

Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Water/Wastewater Project Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of water-related infrastructure and environmental projects in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) and beyond. The role requires a successful track record in the design and construction phases of municipal water/wastewater treatment, pumping and related infrastructure, strong coordination skills, technical understanding of water/wastewater systems, and the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, regulatory bodies, and community stakeholders.

• Develop project delivery and quality plans, schedules, budgets, and risk assessments for water supply, wastewater or water treatment projects.
• Collaborate with engineers, contractors, government agencies, Indigenous communities, and the public to ensure alignment and compliance.
• Verify all project activities meet municipal, provincial, and federal water regulations, environmental standards, building codes and permitting requirements.
• Review engineering designs, technical reports, and construction documents; provide guidance to ensure quality and feasibility.
• Coordinate the work of a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers.
• Prepare RFPs, evaluate bids, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships.
• Track expenditures, forecast costs and cash flow, manage invoicing, and ensure financial accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
• Identify potential risks, develop risk registers and mitigation strategies, and resolve issues that arise during design or construction.
• Prepare progress reports, schedule updates, presentations, and documentation for internal leadership and external stakeholders.
• Integrate industry best practices in water conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable infrastructure.

• Minimum Requirements
  :
  Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or Process) and 6+ years of Project Management experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education in the municipal water/wastewater industry.
• Familiarity with industry standards and strong working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment design and engineering.
• Preferred Requirements
  : 15+ years of progressive experience in the project management of multi‑disciplinary projects (preferably wastewater treatment/infrastructure projects) valued at $20M+ in construction value.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer licensed to work in Canada (Ontario preferred) is an asset.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem‑solving and analytical skills.
• Motivated, team player, independent, organized with strong business acumen.
• Experience working in the engineering consulting industry or construction industry and with project management concepts, principles, and duties.
• Proven ability to write winning proposals and obtain new work.
• Valuable working knowledge of industry standards, local municipal standards and guidelines are considered an asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Willing to travel to and visit active construction sites, providing field review services.
• Proficient using common software packages (Excel, Word, MS Project, PowerPoint).
