Reporting to Maintenance, the Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Specialist is responsible for maintaining, designing and installing Instrumentation & Controls systems in the facilities. You will be analyzing system requirements, reviewing, designing and optimizing control loops, writing and installing custom programmable logic code, testing system efficiency, and providing operational support.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and troubleshoot various SCADA, DCS, and PLC systems including all Operational Technology (OT) and communication systems to maintain optimal plant performance
  • Collect and analyze data from instrumentation and control systems to optimize processes and identify areas for improvement and optimization
  • Access to critical system resources
  • Repair, overhaul, maintain, configure, select, and install controls and instrumentation equipment
  • Drive lifecycle management and planning for control system equipment to ensure long-term reliability compliance with industry best practices
  • Partner with maintenance teams to complete scheduled activities and critical work with minimal downtime
  • Provide troubleshooting support to operations teams in resolving process control issues
  • Administer Control Systems, Operations Technology and communication systems modifications requests under management of change procedure
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation on DCS configurations, changes, and maintenance activities
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Haz Ops/LOPA, and shutdown reviews to improve system safety and reliability
  • Participate in the development of engineering projects as part of a multidisciplinary team, and implementation within schedule and budget limits
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and industry standards
Skills and Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in software engineering, instrumentation control, automation, electrical, process, engineering, or a similar field
  • At least 5 years of experience working with and programming DCS, PLC and similar systems in an industrial setting
  • Experience in programming ABB 800xA and Allen Bradley PLCs will be considered an asset
  • Familiarity with industrial networking and communication protocols, including Modbus and Ethernet/IP
  • In-depth knowledge of process control and instrumentation, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Control Narrative, Control Loop Drawings, SIS/Sil, Area Classification
  • Understanding of Advanced Process Control (APC), optimization techniques and loop tuning
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control logic diagrams
  • Experience in commissioning and start-up of equipment on DCS and PLC will be a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Previous experience in operations is a plus
